Probe: Mental Hospitals Overcrowded
Gotham's mental hospitals are packed due to the Narrows Attack and subsequent Fear Toxin outburst, a Gotham Times investigation has learned. Some mental hospitals in the city are reaching double the recommended capacity. And the patients - due to the fear psychosis that the toxin creates - are more difficult to treat than previous patients. "This isn't modern medicine, this is something out of Edgar Allan Poe," said psychologist Betsy Newell, author of "Please Help Me: The Mentally Ill Finally Talk." The Health Commission declared a medical emergency and waived patient limits at mental hospitals in Gotham shortly after the Narrows Attack. Shortly thereafter, a patient riot at Beth Israel Mental Hospital left two nurses dead.
