Rachel Dawes was a Gotham assistant district attorney, serving that role along with Harvey Dent after Roger Garcetti was appointed acting DA. She became romantically involved with Dent in the interim, and supported him even during the smear charges. Her death at the hands of dirty cops and the Joker's mob goons galvanized Dent into vigilante-minded murder.
